Thunder Bay Aviation Ltd. was formed as an Incorporated company in March of 1987. We are a small business with 13 fulltime employees and access to highly skilled contract labour as needed. The objective of our Company at start up was to provide overhaul and repair services to the many aircraft operators in North Western Ontario for their varied fleet of aircraft.
In our second year of operation we recognized a need for support in the area of the Dehavilland DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft market. Our first step in providing support to the Twin Otter operators was to provide our maintenance and repair expertise to various operators. In our dealings with the various operators we found that the spares support was a niche area where we could provide our expertise. Due to this niche, in June of 1989 we aggressively began to acquire parts for the Twin Otter aircraft. To this end we have to date purchased the complete inventory from five companies who no longer operate the Twin Otter aircraft. We in turn are marketing these parts on a retail basis. To date we have acquired an inventory total of $8,000,000.00. This represents a major inventory of parts for the Twin Otter aircraft.
In our dealings with our current customers we have seen a need for newly manufactured parts and overhauled components. We are targeting this as our next phase of expansion. To date we have STC'ed or PDA'ed over 250 individual part numbers for the DHC-6 Twin Otter Aircraft.
We presently overhaul control surfaces and exchange these with customers. We overhaul hydraulic components and exchange these with customers. We are Transport Canada Approved for the Manufacture of Aeronautical Products, for Maintenance of Aeronautical Products and for the Distribution of Aeronautical Products. We hold ratings for welding of structures both steel and aluminum. Various NDT, machining and plating services are available as well.
